1 Day Sooner

Covid-19 has stirred up a lot of discussions about the ethics of science. I have written before about experiments on humans to learn more about the virus and help speed up the development of a vaccine. If you are interested in this, you might want to have a look at 1 Day Sooner. They advocate for a quick introduction of human trials, arguing that speeding up the development of a vaccine could help save thousands of lives. Some of their numbers look inflated to me. E.g. they estimate that speeding up vaccine development by three months could save around half a million lives. But nevertheless, the logic itself is sound. The site also looks really interesting – For example they do quite a bit of reporting on the process of a vaccine development and on the risks associated with human trials. And if you are down for that, you can also volunteer to participate in trials once they are ready.
