Vitamin D has been among the supplements researchers suggested may be helpful against Covid-19 for a long time. Now we have the results from a first randomized control trial and a summary of the findings in this article. Vitamin D seems to be very effective in the treatment of Covid-19 patients.
What to do with that knowledge? Doses given to patients are higher than a regular daily dose taken by an ordinary person. It was also not investigated whether blood levels of Vitamin D prior to disease onset make a difference. But basic common sense in my opinion suggests this:
- take a regular dose of Vitamin D during the following colder months. While overdosing is possible it is also rather rare.
- Whenever you start to feel any symptoms of cough, fever etc take a higher daily dose
Note that this is my personal opinion I’m sharing and not medical advice. I personally believe it is applicable to most people who might read this blog. If you have any doubts, go see a doctor and get your blood Vitamin D levels checked.
